Project location

Project ID 1110-17-00 is located at the intersection of WIS 26 and County TC between Rosendale and Waupun in the unincorporated community of Ladoga and, in the towns of Springvale and Waupun in Fond Du Lac County.

Project purpose and need

The purpose of the proposed project is to improve safety at the intersection of WIS 26 and County TC while providing acceptable traffic operations.

The need for the proposed improvement is to reduce the number and severity of crashes at the intersection, particularly right-angle crashes.

  • From 2018 and 2022, the intersection experienced nine total crashes resulting in four injury type crashes.
  • Right angle crashes accounted for four of those nine crashes, with three resulting in injuries.
  • Contributing factors to the current crash trends include drivers’ failure to pick adequate gaps when entering the intersection from County TC.

2023 Study

A study completed in October 2023 reviewed alternatives for improving safety at the intersection. A traffic signal and roundabout were evaluated for improving the intersection. The intersection did not meet the required warrants for a traffic signal and a single-lane roundabout was recommended to address the high rate of serious crashes.

Anticipated benefits

The proposed action will improve safety for drivers by decreasing speeds through the intersection and eliminating right angle crashes resulting in fewer severe crashes at the intersection while maintaining acceptable traffic operations.

Proposed improvements

proposed roundabout would consist of single-lane entries on all approaches. The proposed roundabout would consist of single-lane entries on all approaches. Major activities that would occur with the proposed action include:

  • New asphalt pavement

  • OSOW/Truck accommodations – mountable truck apron and overtracking pads

  • Intersection lighting
  • New culvert and storm sewer installation
