WIS 67 resurfacing - Sheboygan County

project mapThe Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is developing plans for proposed improvements on 9.75 miles of WIS 67 in Sheboygan County. The website provides information regarding the proposed improvements scope, schedule, traffic impacts, potential real estate needs, and offers public comment opportunities. We appreciate your input and encourage you to take a moment to review the project information and provide comments.

Project location

The project is located on WIS 67 between the west county line and County PP in the towns of Mitchell, Greenbush and Plymouth and the city of Plymouth in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.

Project purpose and need

The primary purpose of the project is to improve the deteriorating pavement surface and extend the service life of WIS 67, improve deteriorated drainage culverts under WIS 67, and to address the outdated guardrail.

Proposed improvements

Proposed improvements along WIS 67 include:

  • Mill existing asphaltic pavement and overlay with new asphaltic pavement
  • Widen the paved portion of the shoulder, but keep the overall shoulder width the same
  • Replace the existing outdated guardrail with new guardrail that meets current design standards
  • Replace deteriorated drainage culverts
  • Install signs and pavement markings to draw attention to the WIS 67 crossing of the Ice Age Trail
  • Install new pavement markings to maintain safety

Project benefits

Providing motorists with a new roadway surface will improve the smoothness of ride for drivers and help to minimize wear on their vehicles. An extension of the pavement life will lead to a decrease in future maintenance costs of the roadway. Culvert replacements will assist in the efficient transport of water and help to avoid flooding in the event of a significant rainfall event. The replacement of deteriorating guardrail will help to protect motorists who leave the roadway from areas of steep slopes or other safety hazards.

Schedule

road work ahead sign

  • Final plans – Fall 2027
  • Construction is currently schedule for 2029 but could begin as early as 2028 if funding is available.

Real estate

Acquisition of permanent (FEE) and temporary limited easements (TLE) will be needed for grading around the new guardrail installations. Real estate acquisition is expected to begin in Fall 2025. If your property is impacted, a member of our real estate team will contact you.

Traffic impacts

During construction, WIS 67 will remain open to traffic. There will not be a posted detour. During daytime operations, the highway may be reduced to one lane and use flagging operations to manage traffic through the work zones. Shoulder closures are also anticipated in portions of the project. Property access will be maintained at all times and coordinated with adjacent property owners prior to construction activities.
