Location
The bridge carries US 8/WIS 46 over the Apple River in the Polk County town of Apple River southeast of Balsam Lake.
Overview
Built in 1973, the bridge is in need of maintenance. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to:
- Mill and overlay the concrete bridge deck.
- Replace the structure's wing walls.
- Install a pipe underdrain system behind the abutments
- Stabilize the abutment slopes
- Make concrete repairs to the bridge parapet
- Replace the structure's concrete approach slabs, surface drains, asphalt road approaches and guardrail
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2029, but work could occur in 2028 if funding becomes available.
Traffic Impacts
US 8 will remain open to traffic throughout construction, but traffic will be restricted to a single lane on the bridge controlled by temporary traffic signals.
