US 8 (WIS 35 North to WIS 46 South), town of St. Croix Falls to town of Apple River - Polk County

Location

US 8 from the north junction of WIS 35 east of St. Croix Falls to the south junction of WIS 46 in the town of Apple River, all in Polk County.

Overview

This segment of US 8 has begun showing signs of distress in the form of rutting and cracking. To prevent further deterioration of the lower layers of the road and extend US 8's overall service life, this project will:

  • Mill 2.25 inches of existing asphaltic surface and install 3.25 inches new asphalt and, centerline rumble strips.
  • Widen the paved shoulders from 3 to 5 feet and install shoulder rumble strips to reduce run-off-the-road crashes if Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds are awarded.
  • Clean, extend, line or replace existing culverts and replace deteriorating end walls on some structures.
  • Consider measures to manage roadway runoff along Deer Lake.
  • Replace or adjust beam guard.
  • Complete roadside maintenance, including clearing and ditching.
  • Adding "Bridge May Be Icy" signs to the Apple River Bridge.

Schedule

Construction currently is scheduled for 2025.

Traffic Impacts

US 8 will remain open to traffic throughout construction.

  • Work will be completed using single-lane closures controlled by flagging operations during normal construction hours.
  • Access to businesses and residences will be maintained at all times.
