WIS 60 Resurfacing (Wayside Drive to I-41) - Washington County

Project Overview

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is proposing an improvement project along WIS 60, from Wayside Drive in the city of Hartford to I-41 in the village of Slinger, Washington County.

The purpose of this project is to address the pavement conditions and decreased ride quality, increase multimodal connectivity throughout the corridor, and improve safety at the WIS 60/WIS 164 intersection. Proposed improvement include:

  • 4-inch mill and overlay of approximately four (4) miles of WIS 60 within project limits
  • Replace all traffic signals
  • Upgrade curb ramps
  • Add sidewalk to close gaps in existing sidewalk/trail
    • 10' shared use path along north side from Kettle View Court to Kettle Moraine Drive
    • 5' asphalt sidewalk along north side from Kettle Moraine Drive to Parkway Drive
    • 5' concrete sidewalk along south side from Industrial Drive to Hetzel Way
  • Replace sections of guardrail
  • Improvements to bridges over railroad tracks (CN & WSOR)
  • Operational improvements at WIS 60/WIS 164 intersection
    • Accommodation of dual left lanes in the westbound direction
    • Lengthening of the northbound turn lanes
  • Operational improvements at WIS 60/Hetzel Way intersection
    • Accommodation of dual left lanes in the westbound direction
  • Storm sewer upgrades along WIS 60 from Enterprise Drive to I-41, and along WIS 164 for the intersection improvements
  • Miscellaneous culvert pipe maintenance

Traffic Impacts

Using crossovers, WIS 60 will remain open to through traffic in both directions. Lane closures are anticipated. Temporary traffic signals will be used at the signalized intersections. WIS 164, south of WIS 60, will likely be detoured for a portion of the project.

Schedule

Construction could begin as early as fall 2026.
