WIS 26 (WIS 33 to Milligan Road), Minnesota Junction to Waupun - Dodge County
Project overview
Reasons for project:
The projects main purpose is to improve pavement quality and longevity along WIS 26 from WIS 33 to 0.2 miles south of Milligan Road. A temporary mill and overlay project was completed in 2024 to address the immediate surface quality of the highway, but it did not address the underlying foundation deficiencies along the corridor. The need for the project is to extend the pavement service life, address roadway foundation repairs, improve drainage, repair or replace failing pipe culverts and box culverts, and replace outdated beam guard.
This project will include a reconstruction of WIS 26 from WIS 33 to 0.2 mile south of the Milligan Road intersection with WIS 26 in Dodge County. The preferred pavement design is 8-inch concrete pavement over 6 inches base aggregate dense 1-1/4-inch over 16 inches select crushed material. 5' paved shoulders will be included (3' concrete, 2' HMA). The project will also include ditch grading and culvert replacements (driveway and cross culverts).
Additional improvements include:
- Slight roadway realignment
- Profile changes to allow the subgrade to properly drain
- Replacement of curb and gutter
- Ditch grading
- Culvert replacement
- Guardrail replacement
- Reconstruction/lengthening of a box culvert
- Beam guard across WIS 26 bridge over Plum Creek will be removed and replaced
- WIS 26 bridge over Mill Creek will have concrete surface repairs
- Storm sewer replacement
- Curb ramp improvements in Burnett

Traffic impacts/detours
WIS 26 will be closed and detoured for the duration of construction. Access to businesses and residents along the corridor will be maintained.
