Retaining wall replacement on WIS 35 in Maiden Rock to start

Highway to remain open to single lane of traffic controlled by temporary signals

Release date: March 8, 2024

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $3.28 million contract with prime contractor Zenith Tech Inc. - Waukesha for the replacement of retaining walls along WIS 35 between Chestnut and Green streets in the Pierce County village of Maiden Rock. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, March 18.

The existing walls – at W3338 WIS 35 and W3487 WIS 35 – are at the end of their service lives. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Replace both walls.
  • Remove a portion of the existing roadway pavement and overlay it with asphalt.
  • Replace curb and gutter.
  • Install a railing at W3338 WIS 35.
  • Place new pavement markings.

One wall will be replaced at a time. During construction, WIS 35 will remain open to a single lane of traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals.

Construction is scheduled for completion in September.
