Eastbound I-94 Lowes Creek Bridge approach rehab to start

Work to replace settled slab at west end of structure, guardrail at the bridge

Release date: March 22, 2024

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $555,995 contract with prime contractor Chippewa Concrete Services of Chippewa Falls for a rehabilitation project at the west end of the eastbound I-94 bridge over Lowes Creek in the Eau Claire County town of Washington west of WIS 93. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, April 1.

The approach slab has settled. To address this, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Replace the concrete approach slab on the west end of the bridge.
  • Replace guardrail at the bridge connection.
  • Pave the shoulder with asphalt.
  • Place new pavement markings.

During construction, eastbound I-94 will remain open to traffic as work is completed during the following stages:

  • During stage 1, motorists will encounter single-lane closures during off-peak travel times.
  • During stage 2, motorists will encounter continuous single-lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 55 mph in the work zone.
  • During stage 3, two lanes of eastbound I-94 will remain open to traffic, but traffic will be shifted to the northern side of the roadway.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late May.
