US 53 (WIS 64 bridge), town of Bloomer - Chippewa County

Work in 2024 to include replacing westbound travel lanes in Osseo area

Release date: March 29, 2024

Construction on the final year of a multiyear pavement replacement project on I-94 in Trempealeau County from County NN north of Osseo to the east county line is set to resume Monday, April 8; the contractor began mobilizing equipment and materials this week.

This segment of I-94 is showing signs of deterioration. To address these, the WisDOT project will:

  • Remove and replace existing east- and westbound I-94 concrete pavement.
  • Replace the pavement on the I-94/US 10 interchange on- and off-ramps.
  • Add right-turn lanes on US 10 at the I-94 on-ramps.
  • Complete a polymer/chip seal on the US 10 bridge over I-94.

Construction in 2024 includes:

  • Replacing the existing westbound I-94 concrete pavement.
  • Replacing the westbound I-94/US 10 interchange on- and off-ramp connections.
  • Constructing right-turn lanes on the I-94 off-ramps to US 10.
  • Completing a polymer chip seal on the US 10 bridge over I-94.

During construction in 2024, I-94 will remain open to four lanes traffic, but motorists will encounter lane closures on east- and westbound I-94 the week of April 8 as crews prepare to switch traffic from westbound I-94 to temporary lanes the week of April 15 and then single-lane closures during off-peak travel times.

Construction on the $23.69 million project began in July 2022, and all work is scheduled to be completed in November 2024. Hoffman Construction Co. of Black River Falls is the prime contractor.
