Chip sealing planned on segment of WIS 70 in Washburn County

Release date: July 20, 2023

Maintenance crews from the Washburn County Highway Department plan to chip seal a section of WIS 70 from Dugan Lake Road to County BB southwest of Stone Lake on Tuesday, July 25.

A chip seal consists of a layer of crushed stone placed on top of an application of liquid asphalt to reduce further deterioration of the pavement. Loose stones will be on the highway temporarily during the initial cure of the asphalt.

Crews will sweep the highway to clear away loose stones Wednesday, July 26 after the chip seal has cured. Fog sealing and pavement marking will follow the next week. A fog seal consists of applying an asphalt emulsion onto the pavement surface.

During chip sealing operations and the other work, WIS 70 will be open to through traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flaggers during daytime work hours.

Drivers are urged to take extra caution, drive slowly and allow additional space between vehicles to prevent damage from any loose stone chips.

Schedules are dependent on weather conditions and subject to change.
