Chip and fog sealing planned on segment of WIS 27 in Douglas County

Release date: August 2, 2023

Maintenance crews from the Douglas County Highway Department plan to chip seal a section of WIS 27 from Rush Lake Road north to County B in the unincorporated community of Winneboujou on Wednesday, Aug. 9. A fog seal will follow on Friday, Aug. 11.

A chip seal consists of a layer of crushed stone placed on top of an application of liquid asphalt to reduce further deterioration of the pavement. Loose stones will be on the highway temporarily during the initial cure of the asphalt. Once the chip seal has cured, crews will sweep the highway to clear away loose stones.

A fog seal consists of applying an asphalt emulsion onto the pavement surface.

During chip and fog sealing operations, WIS 27 will be open to through traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flaggers and a pilot car between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Drivers are urged to take extra caution, drive slowly and allow additional space between vehicles to prevent damage from any loose stone chips.

Schedules are dependent on weather conditions and subject to change.
