Release date: August 15, 2023

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.07 million contract with prime contractor Larson Construction Co. of Chippewa Falls for a project replacing the bridges carrying WIS 79 over Coon Creek and Clack Creek between Menomonie and Boyceville in Dunn County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 21.

Built in 1936, the existing structures have reached the end of their service lives. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation plans to:

  • Remove and replace the bridges.
  • Replace the roadway pavement on both sides of the structures.
  • Replace guardrail, signage and pavement markings.

During construction, WIS 79 will be closed to through traffic.

  • Through traffic will be detoured to US 12, WIS 25 and WIS 170.
  • Local traffic will be maintained from the north and south sides of bridge locations.

Construction is scheduled for completion in November.
