Release date: August 21, 2023

The railroad crossing on WIS 173 (Market Street) in Nekoosa will be closed between Garrison Avenue and Alexander Avenue starting the week of Aug. 28. A signed detour will be marked to take traffic around the closure. Traffic will be detoured via WIS 73 to WIS 54 to WIS 80.

Crews will be resetting elevations of the ties and rails, installing new concrete panels, asphalt paving, completing sidewalk and curb ramp work. Work is anticipated to be complete and the road open by Sept. 29, 2023. Work is dependent upon favorable weather.

The work is a continuation of a construction program that started last summer and will finish up this year.

In addition to the work being completed at the railroad, crews will also pave a portion of Wood Ave during the same timeframe.
