Governor Evers approves improvement project in Buffalo County

Work includes resurfacing highway, completing bridge approach work, adjusting guardrail

Release date: August 30, 2023

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.22 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Construction Co. of Amery for an improvement project in Buffalo County on WIS 25 between the Minnesota state line and 100 feet south of its southern intersection with WIS 35 in the village of Nelson. Construction is scheduled to start Wednesday, Sept. 6.

The asphalt on this segment of WIS 25 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation plans to:

  • Remove a portion of the existing pavement and place new asphalt pavement.
  • Add centerline and shoulder rumble strips.
  • Adjust guardrail.
  • Complete bridge approach work.
  • Place new pavement markings.

During construction, WIS 25 will remain open to traffic, but motorists might encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late October.
