Governor Evers approves WIS 83 project in Washington County

Release date: September 6, 2023

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers has signed a $3.6 million contract for a multi-year improvement project along WIS 83 in Washington County, from WIS 167 to Monroe Avenue in the City of Hartford.

Work and closures will begin on Tuesday, September 12. Payne & Dolan is the prime contractor for the project and will implement the following:

Project Improvements

  • Asphalt milling and resurfacing
  • Box culvert construction
  • Retaining wall replacement
  • Guardrail replacement
  • Curb ramp improvements

2023 Traffic Impacts / Detours (September 12 – Mid-November)

  • WIS 83 will have a hard closure at the Ashippun River just south of County E for the construction of a box culvert
  • WIS 83 will be closed to through-traffic and detoured between Druid Lake Road and County E
  • Locals can access their properties from either the north or south, but no access will be possible through the work zone

2024 Traffic Impacts / Detours (April 2024 – Early summer 2024)

  • WIS 83 will be closed and detoured between WIS 167 and Monroe Avenue
  • Side road access will be maintained across WIS 83
  • Local access will be maintained (drivers with destinations in the closure should access their destinations from the nearest crossroad possible)
  • Detour will utilize WIS 167, County K and WIS 60

The entire project is scheduled for completion in early summer 2024. Work is weather dependent and subject to change.
