WisDOT seeking input on I-94 median cable guard project

Proposal adds barrier between 0.95 mile west of WIS 65 and County J in St. Croix County

Release date: November 20, 2023

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on a proposed safety improvement project that adds cable guard in the median of I-94 from 0.95 mile west of WIS 65 to WIS 65 and 140th Street to County J in the village of Roberts and towns of Warren, Kinnickinnic and Pleasant Valley, all in St. Croix County.

The public is invited to go to the project website, review a presentation and handout and submit comments by email or mail to project staff by Dec. 18, 2023, by:

  • Email: tyson.pelkofer@dot.wi.gov
  • Mail: Wisconsin Department of Transportation
    718 W. Clairemont Ave.
    Eau Claire, WI 54701
    Attn.: Tyson Pelkofer

Because of cross-median crashes at these locations, WisDOT is proposing to:

  • Install cable guard in the median.
  • Place gravel along the shoulder.
  • Reconstruct drainage structures.
  • Restore the construction site by placing seed and fertilizer.

During construction, I-94 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter shoulder and occasional lane closures.

Construction is scheduled for 2024.
