The Merrimac ferry will close for the winter season on Thursday (Dec. 21) at 9 a.m.
The COLSAC III ferry, which operates seasonally to carry WIS 113 traffic across the Wisconsin River between Okee in Columbia County and Merrimac in Sauk County, began 2023 service on May 5. To date this year the free ferry has carried 176,662 vehicles, 2,781 bicycles, 1,624 pedestrians, 83 buses, 8,019 motorcycles, and has made 34,471 crossings.
The ferry will undergo routine maintenance and repair during the winter months. Operations will resume in the spring of 2024.
