Best rural design by WisDOT
WIS 22/60 and US 51 Roundabout, Columbia County
This innovative WisDOT project was designed to drastically improve safety and reduce congestion at the intersections of WIS 22/WIS 60 and US 51. The project transformed several atypical intersections into one modern multi-lane roundabout while using staged construction to minimize the inconvenience to the traveling public.

US 53 Trego Interchange, Washburn County
Trego’s US 53/63 dangerous at-grade intersection was transformed into a safer interchange through
relocation of US 63, County E, local roads, and a state trail to safely maintain Trego’s access to US 53. Extensive public input and environmental coordination was required to design updates that met the community’s diverse needs while minimizing environmental impacts.
Best rural design by a consultant - special recognition
Madison Beltline Flex Lane, Dane County
HNTB collaborated with WisDOT and Strand Associates to implement a Flex Lane as part of an asphalt overlay to address deteriorating infrastructure and traffic concerns. The Madison Beltline’s Flex Lane became the first application of a dynamic, part-time shoulder lane in the state of Wisconsin.

WIS 89, Columbia County
This WIS 89 improvement project along Farnham Street through the City of Columbus improves pavement condition, drainage, pedestrian accommodations, water/sewer utilities, and safety for many users of this state highway and critical municipal street.

Washington Avenue, Racine County
The reconstructed Washington Avenue represents the values of the City of Racine and its residents. It focuses on multimodal accommodation and encourages alternate modes of travel while still acknowledging the importance of the roadway as one of the major gateways to the city.

WIS 26 Diverging Diamond Interchange, Rock County
This important reconstruction project in the City of Janesville added Wisconsin’s third Diverging Diamond Interchange on WIS 26 and doubled the traffic capacity of I-39/90 from US 14 to Kennedy Road. Additionally, the project enhanced safety and provided unique elements that benefit motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians, businesses, and the natural environment.

WIS 23 Bridge, Sauk and Iowa Counties
The WIS 23 bridge over the Wisconsin River connecting Sauk and Iowa Counties near Spring Green is a significant bridge in a prominent tourism destination. The bridge is nearly 1000’ long and is adjacent to numerous local places, including the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center and Peck’s Landing.

Robert Street Bridge, Jefferson County
The Robert Street Bridge rehabilitation project is a testament to hard work and cooperation among all those involved with the design process. Everyone involved – including WisDOT staff, design consultants, utilities, agencies, and the City of Fort Atkinson – worked together to efficiently deliver a quality project on an extremely accelerated schedule.

West Jackson Street, Wood County
The reconstruction of West Jackson Street transformed the project corridor to complement the downtown Wisconsin Rapids area while enhancing mobility for all modes of travel. The project fit seamlessly into a commercial and industrial corridor that serves as a key east/west truck route within the city.
