Project location

WIS 23 (Pine Street to Rowe Road) and US 18 (Johns Street intersection), City of Dodgeville - Iowa County

Project overview

This project includes three locations in the City of Dodgeville:

  • WIS 23 (from 0.04 miles South of Pine St to Rowe Rd)
  • US 18 (WIS 23 Intersection)
  • US 18 (Johns Street Intersection)

WIS 23 (0.04 Mi South of Pine St to Rowe Rd) – WIS 23 is currently a four-lane undivided roadway. The proposed project is a road diet, where the current four-lane configuration will be reconfigured to a three-lane TWLTL (two way left turn lane) configuration with one dedicated northbound lane, one dedicated southbound lane, and one bidirectional continuous turn lane, or TLWTL. This will be accomplished by removing existing pavement markings and placing new pavement markings. Bike lanes will also be incorporated. The lanes of WIS 23 at County YZ/King Street will also be reassigned to provide to one dedicated and positively offset left turn lane, one dedicated right turn lane, and one dedicated through lane.

US 18 (WIS 23 Intersection) – US 18 is a four-lane divided roadway with right turn lanes and negatively offset left turn lanes. The US 18 left turn lanes will be refigured to provide a positive offset that will allow for additional sight distance for opposing left turning vehicles. WIS 23 is also a four-lane facility, with left turn lanes and one right turn lane. The WIS 23 approaches will be reconfigured to allow for one through lane, one right turn lane, and one positively offset left turn lane in each direction that will improve sight distance for opposing left turning vehicles. Signal equipment will be replaced, and curb ramps will be updated to meet ADA standards as part of this project.

US 18 (Johns Street Intersection) – US 18 is a four-lane divided roadway with right turn lanes and negatively offset left turn lanes. The US 18 left turn lanes will be refigured to provide a positive offset that will allow for additional sight distance for opposing left turning vehicles. Johns Street is a two-lane facility, with right turn lanes and negatively offset left turn lanes. The Johns Street left turn lanes will be reconfigured and positively offset, resulting in improved sight distance for opposing left turning vehicles. Signal equipment will be replaced, and curb ramps will be updated to meet ADA standards as part of this project.
