I-94, Red Cedar River to WIS 29 in Menomonie, Dunn County.
The purpose of officially mapping this corridor is to preserve future right of way needs for the future reconstruction of I-94 in eastern Dunn County and the reconstruction of the I-94/US 12/WIS 29 interchange.
I-94 is the main east/west multi-lane interstate corridor through the state. It is part of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Corridors 2030 Plan and connects all regions and major economic centers in the state, which are tied to the national transportation network.
Creating an official map of this 8.5 mile stretch of I-94 under Wisconsin Statute 84.295(10) would preserve the viability of the I-94 corridor. Planning and design work started in 2009 and construction would begin within the next 20 years. Reconstruction of this nature is estimated to be approximately $67.8 million for I-94 and $44.3 million for the interchange-in 2010 dollars.
WIS 29 is also a multi-lane backbone highway providing connectivity to major economic/population centers from I-94 east to Green Bay, Wisconsin. The project will preserve future right of way for a new system to system interchange with US 12/WIS 29. The project will also prevent conflicting, costly economic development on lands needed for future right of way.
