Improving Wisconsin's transportation network
The Partnering Initiative is a collaborative effort between the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Wisconsin to improve working relationships and the delivery of Wisconsin transportation projects.
Collaboration and partnership are of great importance to WisDOT, and having a strong relationship with industry helps greatly in its efforts to deliver the improvement program for millions of people in the traveling public.
The goal of this partnership is to provide a new way of doing business in Wisconsin.
WisDOT and ACEC entered a new phase in their relationship with the Building Partnerships summit that took place in April 2023. Members from each group met to share information from their own perspective as well as the main concerns from each area.
Feedback from the event was positive, and it was regarded as a good opportunity to build on existing relationships and forge new ones.
The groups have taken what they learned from that event and are incorporating it into their triannual Transportation Partnering Meetings.
A history of partnership
WisDOT and ACEC have developed a strong relationship over the course of many years. The Partnering Initiative initially got off the ground in January 2014 with the creation of the Partnering Priority Matrix, which also included Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association (WTBA).
That document included many proposals and action plans to be completed over the next several years.
