Work to resume on WIS 24 resurfacing project in Milwaukee County

Release date: March 6, 2026

Beginning the week of March 16, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will resume work along WIS 24 (Forest Home Avenue), between 45th Street and Janesville Road, in Milwaukee County.

Work to be completed:

Construction between 45th Street and Howard Avenue is substantially complete with minor lighting and restoration work remaining.

Work between Howard Avenue and Janesville Road will include:

  • Roadway resurfacing
  • Guardrail improvements
  • Various intersection improvements
  • New pavement marking

Traffic impacts:

Work between 45th Street and Howard Avenue will require short-term lane closures for minor lighting and restoration work.

Work between Howard Avenue and Janesville Road will require long-term lane closures for resurfacing and safety improvement work. WIS 24 will remain open to traffic in both directions.

Schedule:

Construction on this project began in late March 2025 and is scheduled for completion in summer 2026. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

A.W. Oakes & Son, Inc. is the prime contractor for the $13.8 million contract.
