Governor Evers approves WIS 65 and US 10 culvert project

Crews to replace three culverts and rehabilitate a fourth in Pierce County

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.15 million project replacing two culverts on WIS 65 between River Falls and Ellsworth and repairing one culvert and replacing another on US 10 southeast of Ellsworth, all in Pierce County. Construction is tentatively scheduled to start Monday, March 23.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation project includes:

  • Replacing culvert C-47-2, which carries a branch of Goose Creek under WIS 65 in the town of Ellsworth, reconstructing the roadway and removing guardrail
  • Replacing culvert C-47-5, which carries a branch of the south fork of the Kinnickinnic River under WIS 65 in the town of River Falls, reconstructing the roadway and removing guardrail.
    • Both box culverts are located between River Falls and Ellsworth and were constructed in were constructed in 1948.
  • Repairing the wing walls on culvert C-47-236, which carries an unnamed drainageway under US 10 east of 490th Street, and replacing guardrail at that location
  • Replacing culvert C-47-242, which carries an unnamed drainageway under US 10 northwest of 400th Street, reconstructing the road where work is being completed, replacing the guardrail on the north side of the highway and removing guardrail on the south side.
    • Both structures are located southeast of Ellsworth in the town of Salem and were built in 1932.

During the replacement of C-47-2 and C-47-5, WIS 65 will be closed to through traffic, which will be detoured via US 10, US 63, WIS 29 and WIS 35. Access to homes and businesses in the area will be maintained.

During repair work at C-47-236, US 10 will remain open, but motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by flagging as work is occurring. During the replacement of C-47-242, US 10 would remain open to a single lane of traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late September.
