Governor Evers approves $2.91-million sidewalk curb ramp project

Crews to upgrade curb ramps along segments of WIS 93, WIS 312 and US 12

Release date: March 23, 2026

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.91 million contract with prime contractor Chippewa Concrete Services, Inc. of Chippewa Falls for a project upgrading sidewalk curb ramps on sections of WIS 93, WIS 312 and US 12 in Eau Claire County. Construction is tentatively scheduled to start Monday, March 30.

Some of the curb ramps located along WIS 93 from East Hamilton Avenue in Eau Claire to Deerfield Road in the town of Washington, WIS 312 from Old Wells Road to US 53 in Eau Claire and US 12 from Truax Boulevard in Eau Claire to Mayer Road in Altoona aren't Americans With Disabilities Act compliant. To address this, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to:

  • Reconstruct noncompliant curb ramps
  • Upgrade pedestrian crossings that aren’t consistent or not fully provided where needed

During construction, WIS 93, WIS 312 and US 12 will remain open to traffic, but:

  • Motorists will encounter short-term lane closures on WIS 93, WIS 312 and US 12.
  • Heavy truck traffic will encounter short-term closures on North Hastings Way and US 53 ramps, which are part of detours for construction on WIS 312 and US 12.
  • Motorists might encounter some side road lane and shoulder closures as work is completed.
  • Pedestrians will encounter sidewalk closures, detours and temporary crossings.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-September.
