Bayfield County project at North Fish Creek to be completed using lane closure
Release date: April 6, 2026
To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed $1.69 million contract with prime contractor Sheet Piling Services of Custer a project rehabilitating the bridge carrying US 2 over North Fish Creek southwest of the intersection of US 2 and WIS 13 in Bayfield County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, April 13.
Built in 1977, the bridge needs maintenance. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:
- Replacing the bridge deck
- Repairing an abutment
- Resetting an inlet
- Completing minor paving on both sides of the bridge to adjust and smooth out roadway approaches
- Adjusting guardrail
During construction, US 2 will remain open to a single lane at the bridge controlled by temporary traffic signals. In addition, access to the park and ride lot northeast of the structure will be maintained.
Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-July.
