Governor Evers approves WIS 23 improvements in Green Lake County

For release: April 8, 2026

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers signed a $1.9 million contract to improve WIS 23 between County A and the Fond du Lac County Line, in the city of Green Lake and town of Brooklyn. Work is scheduled to begin April 14, 2026.

Northeast Asphalt, Inc. is the prime contractor for the project. Work will consist of resurfacing WIS 23 with new asphalt pavement, replacing existing pedestrian curb ramps, upgrading the signal heads at the intersection of WIS 23 and WIS 49 to include protected left turn phases, and placing new pavement marking.

During construction, WIS 23 will be open to through traffic, but some delays can be expected. The signal at the intersection of WIS 23 and WIS 49 will be converted to an all-way flashing red for one day to allow crews to replace signal heads. Turn lane closures at the intersection of WIS 23 and WIS 49 can be expected during construction. Motorists can expect to encounter flaggers directing traffic through the work zone during milling and paving operations.

Construction is scheduled for completion by June 2026. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
