Construction planned on WIS 13 in Ashland County and WIS 77 in Sawyer County

Release date: April 16, 2026

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $5.19 million contract with prime contractor James Peterson Sons, Inc. of Medford for a culvert replacement and structure rehabilitation project on WIS 13 from the Price County line north to Morse Road in Ashland County and a rehabilitation project on the bridge that carries WIS 77 over the Teal River northeast of Hayward in Sawyer County.

Construction on the WIS 13 project is scheduled to begin April 27, and work on the WIS 77 project is expected to start in August.

The contractor is holding a construction information meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23 at Butternut Village Hall, 301 N. Michigan St., to share details with the public about the WIS 13 project, including the scope of work, schedule and traffic impacts.

Construction in 2026 on WIS 13 includes:

  • Replacing, resetting, extending or abandoning more than 50 existing culvert pipes and constructing a new box culvert at Becky Creek
  • Making concrete surface repairs at the bridge over Dryden Creek northwest of Glidden
  • Patching the deck on the bridge over the Chippewa River southeast of Glidden
  • Overlaying the deck with concrete on the bridge over Butternut Creek south of Butternut
  • Replacing guardrail at the structures and one other location in the project limits

During construction, WIS 13 will remain open to traffic. Single-lane closures will be used to complete the work using either flagging operations or temporary traffic signals.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late October.

Two additional pavement improvement projects on WIS 13 between the Price County line and Morse Road are planned for 2027.

Details about the Teal River Bridge rehabilitation project will be released prior to the start of construction on the structure.
