Governor Evers approves WIS 77 resurfacing project in Ashland County

Work from Mellen to Iron County line includes overlaying Devil’s Creek Bridge deck, installing centerline rumble strips

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $3.59 million contract with prime contractor Northwoods Paving Co. of Ashland for a resurfacing project on WIS 77 from WIS 13 in Mellen to the Iron County line, all in Ashland County. Construction activities are scheduled to start Monday, July 6.

The pavement on this section of WIS 77 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) project is:

• Milling off a portion of the existing pavement and placing new pavement
• Replacing storm sewer
• Installing centerline rumble strips
• Overlaying the deck on the Devil's Creek Bridge in Mellen
• Cleaning, removing or replacing culverts
• Replacing culvert end walls
• Replacing or removing guardrail
• Placing new pavement markings

During construction, WIS 77 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging for asphalt paving and culvert maintenance operations and temporary signals for the deck overlay on the Devil’s Creek Bridge in Mellen.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late September.
