Paving to start on WIS 35/64 and WIS 64 in St. Croix County

Closure of four interchange ramps also scheduled to begin week of Aug. 3

Release date: July 31, 2026

Motorists will encounter lane closures on a segment of westbound WIS 35/64 near Somerset and eastbound WIS 64 between Somerset and New Richmond as paving begins the week of Aug. 3 as part of an improvement project in St. Croix County.

In addition, ramp closures at Somerset/Osceola exit 9 (WIS 35 North/County C) and New Richmond exit 13 (County A/Business 64) are planned for the coming week.

Paving operations

The contractor is expected to complete a paving trial run Monday on the inside westbound lanes and coring and testing on Tuesday and then begin paving on Wednesday. Crews will continue working at or near the centerline, so the public can expect to see barrels or cones pushing traffic onto the shoulder in the open lane. Motorists are advised to slow down.

Asphalt overlays are planned on westbound WIS 35/64 between Somerset exit 6 (County VV/Business 64) and Somerset/Osceola exit 9 (WIS 35 North/County C) and on eastbound WIS 64 between exit 9 and New Richmond exit 13 (County A/Business 64), with paving completion set for late August.

Ramp closures

The following ramps are scheduled to close Wednesday, Aug. 5 and expected to remain closed through Friday, Aug. 14:

  • The ramp from westbound WIS 35/64 to WIS 35 North/County C and ramp from WIS 35 North/County C to eastbound WIS 64, all at Somerset/Osceola exit 9
  • The ramp from eastbound WIS 64 to County A/Business 64 at New Richmond exit 13

In addition, the ramp from County A/Business 64 to westbound WIS 64 at New Richmond exit 13 is scheduled to close Thursday, Aug. 6 and reopen by the end of the day Saturday, Aug. 8.

Detours will be posted for all ramp closures, and all work and lane and ramp closures are weather and contractor dependent.

Construction on WIS 35/64 from 150th Avenue northeast of Houlton to County C in Somerset and WIS 64 from WIS 35 North to 142nd Street in New Richmond began in mid-April, with completion expected in September.
