The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on a proposed improvement project on WIS 46 from the entrance to York Park in Amery north to US 8, all in Polk County.

The public is invited to go to the project website, review information about the proposed work and submit comments by Oct. 30, 2026, by:

  • Mail: Wisconsin Department of Transportation, W7102 Green Valley Road, Spooner, W 54801 Attn.: Beth Cunningham

The pavement on this 4.9-mile segment of WIS 46 is deteriorated. To address this, WisDOT is proposing:

  • Milling and removing approximately 5 inches of existing pavement
  • Reclaiming and stabilizing approximately 6 inches of the remaining existing base using an asphalt stabilizing agent
  • Placing approximately 5 inches of a hot-mix asphalt overlay on the roadway
  • Restoring gravel shoulders
  • Removing and replacing all existing guardrail along the corridor
  • Removing and replacing concrete pavement approach slabs at bridge structures
  • Replacing deteriorated culverts and performing required clearing and drainage work
  • Performing route maintenance on other culverts as necessary
  • Installing pavement markings
  • Completing restoration work

During construction, WIS 46 will be closed to through traffic, but access will be maintained to residences, the park and businesses in the work zone using flagging operations. Through traffic will be detoured via US 63, US 8 and WIS 46.

Construction currently is scheduled for 2029, but work could occur as early as 2028 if funding becomes available.
