The pavement on this section of WIS 35 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, WisDOT is proposing:
- Resurfacing the pavement
- Replacing concrete bridge approach slabs as needed
- Replacing guardrail
- Replacing select culverts and cleaning and repairing others where required
- Replacing curb and gutter at spot locations
- Repairing the Black River Bridge
- Replacing pavement approximately 200 feet south of the Nemadji River Bridge
- Replacing the pavement and repairing the embankment approximately 1,600 feet north of the Nemadji River Bridge
- Replacing locations of centerline and shoulder rumble strips
- Installing new pavement markings
- Upgrading at-grade railroad crossing and clearing vison triangles as needed
- The railroad will complete the crossing work during construction.
Crews will manage traffic using single-lane closures with flagging operations except as follows:
- A detour will be implemented during paving and culvert replacement operations between County B East and County C East.
- Detour route: County B East, County A and County C East
- The detour is anticipated to be in place for about four weeks.
- A detour is anticipated during the railroad crossing replacement.
- Anticipated detour route: County C East, County A, Woodlawn Road and North 58th Street
- The detour is anticipated to be in place for five days.
Trucks will not be allowed on the detour route; a separate truck detour route will be implemented using WIS 77, US 53 and US 2.
The culvert replacement north of the Pattison State Park entrance will occur under single-lane conditions with temporary widening and flagging. Lane widths will be reduced.
Work on the Black River Bridge will occur under single-lane conditions with temporary signals to control traffic.
Motorists can expect some delays to occur during flagging, lane closures and detours, but delays will be managed through limiting contractor operations at critical times.
Construction currently is scheduled for 2029.
