Release date: November 13, 2025
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has lowered the gross vehicle weight limit for the bridge carrying US 12/WIS 27 over Coon Creek in Jackson County to 20 tons, or 40,000 pounds, because of the structure’s age and condition.
Built in 1945 and widened in 1959, the bridge is northwest of the intersection of US 12/WIS 27 and US 10 in the Jackson County town of Cleveland and just south of the Eau Claire County village of Fairchild.
Signs noting the weight restriction were placed this morning, and all loads greater than 20 tons are now restricted from crossing the bridge and must use an alternate route.
Motorists are reminded that using handheld cell phones in Wisconsin work zones is illegal. Alerts and updates provided via these sites are not intended for use while driving. When driving, your focus should always be on driving.
