Installation of roundabout being considered at County D intersection in New London
Release date: December 4, 2024
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding a public involvement meeting to discuss the possible installation of a roundabout at US 45/County D intersection in New London to address safety concerns.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting to listen to the discussion, ask questions of project staff and provide input.
- When: 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11
- A short presentation is planned for 5 p.m.; the remainder of the meeting will follow an open-house format.
- Where: Council chambers, New London Municipal Building, 215 N. Shawano St.
Concerns were raised about the safety of the intersection in fall 2023 during a public involvement meeting on proposed improvements to US 45 between New London and Clintonville. To address those, WisDOT is considering the installation of a roundabout at US 45/County D.
If WisDOT moves forward with installing a roundabout, the work would be completed during the planned improvement project on US 45. To address deteriorating pavement and other issues, WisDOT is proposing to:
- Remove all pavement and pave the roadway with 7 to 7.5 inches of new asphalt, keeping the current 12-foot lanes, 3-foot paved shoulders and 7-foot gravel shoulders.
- Remove a portion of the pavement at the New Lisbon park and ride lot in the northwest quadrant of the intersection of US 45, WIS 15 and County T (Mill Street) and place new asphalt pavement.
- Clean 16 culvert pipes and make repairs to culvert inlets.
- Make spot curb and gutter repairs.
- Install centerline rumble strips and new pavement markings.
- Replace guardrail.
Construction currently is scheduled for 2026.
The meeting facility is wheelchair accessible. Hard-of-hearing, deaf, deaf-blind or those with a speech disability needing accommodations should contact the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay Service via 711 at least three days before the meeting.
