Release date: December 16, 2025
The installation of streetlights on the Minnesota side of the Bong Bridge, which carries US 2 across the St. Louis River between Superior and Duluth, has been pushed back.
The installation of streetlights on the exit and entrance ramps on the Minnesota side of the bridge currently is scheduled for the week of December 29. Streetlights are scheduled to be installed on the Minnesota side of the bridge the weeks of January 5 and January 12.
Installation of streetlights will result in the following ramp closures in Duluth:
- 6 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 30: Ramp from southbound I-35 to eastbound US 2
- 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 30: Ramp from westbound US 2 to northbound I-35
- 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 31: Ramp from northbound I-35 to eastbound US 2
Motorists will encounter single-lane closures on the Minnesota side of the bridge through the tied arch for installation of lights on the Minnesota side and maintenance of the lights on the Wisconsin side. Currently, those are anticipated to begin Monday, January 5, with all work completed by the end of the following week.
The work, part of a Bong Bridge rehabilitation project that began in August, is weather dependent.
