Location
US 2, between Pewabic Street and County NN (Cooks Road), Florence, Florence County
Overview
The purpose of this project is to improve a section of US 2 from Pewabic Street to County NN in Florence County. These improvements are needed to address the signs of deterioration in the form of rutting and alligator, longitudinal and transverse cracking. Various curb ramps would be improved to meet Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Proposed improvements include removing and replacing 4 inches of asphalt pavement, replacing curb and gutter throughout the project, replacing curb ramps that do not meet current ADA standards and extending sidewalks.
Traffic Impacts
During construction:
- US 2 will remain open during construction through use of single-lane closures and flagging operations.
- Access to adjacent properties and businesses will be maintained, but brief, temporary interruptions in access may occur at driveways. The contractor will be required to notify property owners prior to construction.
- Replacement of sidewalk and curb ramps will have minor impacts to pedestrians.
Real Estate
Temporary and/or permanent land acquisitions may be required at intersections to construct curb ramps to ADA standards. Real estate negotiations are expected to begin in summer of 2023. Direct mailings and coordination will occur with impacted property owners.
