US 8, County L to Klade Road, Lincoln County

Location

US 8, County L to Klade Road north of Tomahawk in the town of Bradley, Lincoln County

Overview

The existing pavement has alligator cracking and rutting. To address these, proposed improvements include milling and overlaying the existing pavement. In addition, the US 8 intersections at County L and County A will be evaluated for options to address crashes.

Proposed Improvements

Proposed improvements include:

  • Milling the surface layer of existing asphalt and overlaying it with new asphalt.
  • Installing new permanent signing.
  • Installing new pavement markings.
  • Re-align the Hiawatha Trail crossing.

The selected improvement alternative for County L and County A intersections is:

  • Roundabout Intersections (Selected Alternative)
    • The roundabout would geometrically decrease speeds and eliminate right angle crashes at the intersection. Traffic operations are expected to be satisfactory, with much shorter queues than an all-way stop control alternative. Additional improvements would include installing new street lighting.
    • County L
    • County A

Information on additional alternatives considered is in the handout below.

Traffic Impacts

US 8 will remain open to traffic during construction. Motorists can expect to encounter lane closures, temporary roadway surfaces and flagging operations. Additional closures maybe required depending on which alternatives are selected. Traffic impacts will be updated as the project design moves forward.

Public Involvement

A public involvement meeting was held Jan. 17 at the city hall in Tomahawk. The following information was presented along with the intersection alternatives listed above:
