WIS 29, Shawano County

Location

WIS 29 westbound Wolf River Bridge, in Shawano County

Overview

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing improvements on WIS 29 Westbound (WB) from WIS 22 east to the Wolf River and on the WIS 29 WB exit ramp to WIS 22 in the towns of Belle Plaine and Waukechon in Shawano County. Silty, sandy soils below the roadway pavement section and the lack of an effective drainage system to remove surface water from the roadway subsoils are causing distress to the overlying concrete pavement and to the Wolf River bridge embankment.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists can expect bidirectional traffic on the EB side of WIS 29 from Rose Brook Road east to just west of the WIS 55/WIS 47N/County K interchange while work proceeds on the WB lanes. This will allow work to proceed in an efficient manner while increasing safety for workers and the traveling public. A temporary speed reduction from 65 mph to 55 mph will take place within the EB bidirectional traffic area.

In addition, the WIS 29 WB exit ramp to WIS 22 will be closed during the duration of the project to allow an access route to the underside of the Wolf River structure as well as for ramp repairs. Detours for WIS 29 WB traffic to access WIS 22 will be as follows:

  • Traffic on WIS 29 WB wanting to proceed northbound on WIS 22 will be detoured on WIS 55 north to WIS 55/WIS 22
  • Traffic on WIS 29 WB wanting to proceed southbound on WIS 22 will be detoured north on WIS 55, west on WIS 55/WIS 22, then south on WIS 22.
