The pavement on US 8 from the Minnesota/Wisconsin border to Glacier Drive and WIS 35 from 450 feet north of Summit Street to 75 feet south of Maple Drive have begun showing signs of deterioration. To address this and safety concerns for the US 8/WIS 87 intersection, WisDOT is proposing to:
- Mill 1 inch to 1 ¾ inches of the existing asphalt and concrete pavement and overlay the roadway with new asphaltic pavement
- Reconstruct the existing right-turn lane for westbound US 8 traffic at the WIS 87 intersection
- Replace, clean or repair select culverts and storm sewer inlets
- Replace the existing guardrail at the Interstate State Park Road overpass
- Perform maintenance on two sedimentation ponds
- Install new pavement markings and signage
During construction, US 8 and WIS 35 will remain open to traffic using lane closures and staged construction. In addition, access to all properties in the work zone will be maintained.
Construction currently is scheduled for 2029.
