WisDOT seeking input on County H bridge replacement over I-94

Built as part of the original interstate construction, structure is nearing end of service life

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding a public involvement meeting to share details about a project replacing the bridge that carries County H over I-94 in the Dunn County village of Elk Mound.

• When: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 15
  • The meeting will follow an open-house format.
• Where: Elk Mound Community Center, E101 Menomonie St.

Built in 1959, the County H bridge is nearing the end of its service life. The proposed WisDOT project will:

• Replace the existing bridge
  • The new structure will be long enough to accommodate a future six-lane interstate.
• Raise the new structure by about 1.5 feet
• Reconstruct roadway approaches on either side of the bridge

During construction, County H will be closed at the bridge, and traffic will be detoured via County H to County EE to US 12 and back to County H. Four lanes of traffic will be maintained on I-94 during construction, except for intermittent off-peak single-lane closures or nighttime full closures on I-94 that may be necessary for critical construction operations such as girder placement.

Construction currently is scheduled for 2029.
