Location
The County H bridge over I-94 is located in the Dunn County village of Elk Mound.
Overview
Built in 1959, the bridge carrying County H over east- and westbound I-94 is nearing the end of its service life. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:
- Replacing the existing bridge
- The roadway width on the new structure will be 34 feet - 4 feet wider than the existing.
- The new bridge will have two 12-foot travel lanes and two 5-foot shoulders. In addition, the structure will have 6-foot sidewalk on its east side.
- Raising the vertical profile of the new structure by approximately 1.5 feet
- The new bridge will be long enough to accommodate a future six-lane I-94.
- Reconstructing roadway approaches on both sides of the bridge
Real Estate
WisDOT anticipates the need to purchase permanent right of way for this project. Temporary limited easements (TLEs) also will be necessary.
Business Impacts
WisDOT understands that improvement projects can create logistical challenges for businesses. To help owners navigate those, WisDOT has created the In This Together program, which includes tips, tools and resources to help businesses plan for highway construction projects.
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2029.
Traffic Impacts
During construction:
- I-94 will remain open to traffic, but temporary lane closures during off-peak travel times and full overnight closures might be necessary to complete certain operations.
- County H will be closed, and traffic will be detoured.
Public Involvement
WisDOT is holding a public involvement meeting to share details about the proposed project and obtain public input.
