Since the project was first introduced, WisDOT has made several changes, including removing the top 4 inches of the existing pavement and placing 4 inches of new asphalt pavement, closing US 53 to through traffic during construction and moving construction to 2027. The remaining work remains the same:
- Replacing culverts
- Replacing guardrail
- Making structure repairs on various bridges and culverts
- Adding a turn lane at Hillview Road
Some real estate acquisition - mainly strip areas near existing cross culverts or guardrail - will be needed to complete the work.
During construction, US 53 will be closed to through traffic, which will be detoured via US 10 and I-94. Access will be maintained to homes and businesses in the work zone.
Construction previously was scheduled for 2029, but the work has been advanced to 2027.
