Location
The proposed project is on US 53 from Old Town Hall Road in the Eau Claire County town of Washington to US 10 West in the Trempealeau County town of Sumner.
Overview
The pavement and culverts in this segment of highway are showing signs of deterioration. To address these and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to:
- Remove a portion of the existing pavement and place new asphalt pavement.
- Improve geometric safety elements at the intersection of Hillview Road.
- Repair, replace or clean culverts.
- Replace guardrail.
- Clean ditches.
- Place new pavement markings.
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2029, but work could be completed as early as 2027 if funding becomes available.
Traffic Impacts
During construction, US 53 will:
- Be closed to through traffic for the replacement two sets of three galvanized steel culverts carrying Otter Creek under the roadway. Traffic will be detoured via County HH and I-94.
- Remain open to traffic for remaining work, but motorists will encounter daytime single-lane closures controlled by flagging.
