Location
The proposed 15.4-mile project runs from Old Town Hall Road in the Eau Claire County city of Eau Claire to US 10 west of Osseo in the Trempealeau County town of Sumner.
Overview
The pavement and culverts in this segment of highway are showing signs of deterioration. To address these and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to:
- Remove 4 inches of the existing asphalt pavement and place 4 inches of new asphalt
- Add a turn lane at Hillview Road
- Repair, replace or clean culverts
- Replace guardrail
- Clean ditches
- Place new pavement markings
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2027.
Traffic Impacts
During construction, US 53 will be closed to through traffic.
- Through traffic will be detoured via US 10 and I-94.
- Access to businesses and residences in the work zone will be maintained.
