WisDOT seeking public input on WIS 72 resurfacing project

Proposed work includes widening paved shoulders, completing culvert work

Release date: October 10, 2025

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on a proposed resurfacing project on WIS 72 from County BB east of Ellsworth to County G just west of Elmwood, all in Pierce County.

The public is invited to go to the project website, review a presentation and submit comments by October 27, 2025, by:

  • Email: adam.sturgis@dot.wi.gov
  • Mail: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

    Attn.: Adam Sturgis

The existing pavement on WIS 72 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, WisDOT is proposing:

  • Resurfacing the pavement
  • Widening travel lanes and shoulders
  • Adding shoulder rumble strips to five-foot paved shoulders
  • Replacing the wings on a culvert located between both junctions of 630th Avenue southwest of Elmwood
  • Replacing or repairing other culverts as needed
  • Replacing guardrail
  • Installing a high-friction surface treatment on the County BB approach to WIS 72

During construction, WIS 72 is expected to remain open to traffic for most operations, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging for pavement work and shoulder closures for box culvert work. A short-term detour might be necessary for culvert replacement south of 630th Avenue.

Construction currently is scheduled for 2028.
