Overview

WIS 17, Between US 8 and Stevens Street

Proposed improvements include:

  • Replacement of the asphalt pavement and curb and gutter for WIS 17 from US 8 to Stevens Street.
    • From US 8 to approximately a half mile south of Lincoln Street, the existing asphalt pavement will be pulverized, approximately 3-inches of pulverized material will be removed, and the roadway will be paved with a new asphalt pavement
    • From approximately half mile south of Lincoln Street to 250 feet north of Stevens Street, the existing asphalt pavement, base course, and curb and gutter will be removed. New base course, curb and gutter, and asphaltic pavement will be construc​ted.
    • The project will repair damaged inlets and manholes during construction.
    • The existing signals and intersection configurations will remain the same, with the exception of the changes at Timer Drive
      • Removal of the island and straighten the right turn lane in the southwest corner of the of the Timer Drive intersection which will improve visibility for right turning vehicles turning on to WIS 17.
    • Widening the existing 5-foot wide sidewalk along the west side of WIS 17 from Lincoln Street to Stevens Street to a 10-foot wide multi-use path. The wider multi-use path will provide bike accommodations along WIS 17 where shoulders are not present.
      • Extending the sidewalk along Stevens Street from North Chippewa Drive to WIS 17 to connect the sidewalk along Stevens Street and WIS 17.
      • Replacement of the existing curb ramps along WIS 17 with curb ramps that meet current ADA standards.

WIS 17, Between Stevens Street and Pollyanna Road

Proposed improvements include:

  • Replacing asphalt pavement and curb and gutter
    • From 250 feet north of Stevens Street to 200 feet south of the CN railroad crossing the existing asphalt pavement, base course, and curb and gutter will be removed. New base course, curb and gutter, and asphaltic pavement will be constructed
    • From 200 feet south of the CN railroad to Pollyanna Road, the existing asphalt pavement will be pulverized, approximately 3-inches of pulverized material will be removed, and the roadway will be paved with a new asphalt pavement
  • Repairing damaged inlets and manholes during construction.
  • Constructing new ditches on both sides of WIS 17 from the CN railroad crossing to the Menard’s driveway. Coordination with CN railroad will occur to improve railroad crossing located north of Shepard Lake Road.

Traffic Impacts

WIS 17, Between US 8 and Stevens Street

During construction, WIS 17 will be constructed under daytime lane closures with flagging operations. From half mile south of Lincoln Street to north of Stevens Street WIS 17 will be constructed half at a time. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on one side of the roadway while the other half is constructed. Temporary signals will be at the Lincoln Street, Eisenhower Parkway, Timber Drive and Stevens Street intersections.

WIS 17, Between Stevens Street and Pollyanna Road

WIS 17 will remain open during construction. Traffic would be maintained in the two-lane section using lane closures with flagging operations. Traffic would be maintained in the four-lane roadway section by closing one side for construction while the other side has bi-directional traffic.

Real Estate

WIS 17, Between US 8 and Stevens Street

Additional right of way will be required for the sidewalk widening along the west side of WIS 17 from Lincoln Drive to just north of Eisenhower Drive. WisDOT expects to begin real estate acquisition in fall 2021.

WIS 17, Between Stevens Street and Pollyanna Road

No real estate impacts are expected.
