WIS 29 Resurfacing Project

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public feedback on the below design proposal for construction on WIS 29 in Brown County. This outreach aims to obtain your input on the identified needs and proposed improvements along WIS 29 between the west county line and County J in Brown County. We appreciate your input and encourage you to take a moment to review the project information and provide comments.

Project location

  • WIS 29 between the west county line and County J in the towns of Pittsfield and Oneida and the villages of Howard and Hobart, Brown County, Wis.

Project need

The purpose of the project is to improve the deteriorating pavement, extend the roadway’s service life, and upgrade other roadway deficiencies.

Proposed Improvements

WisDOT is proposing a resurface-level improvement project in the eight-mile work zone.

Improvements include:

  • Resurfacing mainline WIS 29 (asphalt mill and overlay)
  • Resurfacing ramps for WIS 32 and resurfacing mainline WIS 32 (asphalt mill and overlay)
  • Base patching and concrete repair
  • Minor structural repair work consisting of replacement of wingwalls and secondary structural work​​
  • Replacing beam guard
  • Replacing curb ramps on County FF north of WIS 29
  • Replacing culvert endwalls
  • Replacing culverts
  • Pavement markings
  • Shoulder rumble strips
  • Shoulder aggregate

Schedule

  • Design is currently underway with final plans expected in summer 2024.
  • Construction is scheduled for 2027.
    • Construction year could be advanced to as early as 2025 if funding becomes available.

Real estate

No real estate will be required for this project.

Traffic impacts

WIS 29 will remain open during mainline resurfacing.

  • Motorists can expect to encounter lane closures and flagging operations.
  • During the replacement of two culverts on WIS 29, one direction of traffic will be closed.
    • Traffic will be directed onto the off- and on-ramps of County VV.
  • The ramps for WIS 32 will be closed for 3 days or less during resurfacing/repairing operations.

It's critical that customers have access to businesses and that they continue to visit them, regardless of any road work inconvenience. WisDOT has created a public handout for the project. Please feel free to download, print, and share with anyone who does not have access to this website. The handout includes a prepaid mailer for public comments.
