Project engineers will share maps, displays, and exhibits via a live presentation. The presentation will also include information for businesses impacted by road construction. A comment, question, and answer period will follow the live presentation.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is in the process of developing plans for proposed improvements on County OOO over I-41 in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. The purpose of this website is to provide information regarding the proposed improvements, describe the potential impacts it would have on the community, and offer an opportunity for public comment.
Project location
The project is located over I-41 on County OOO (West Scott Street) from just east of the County VVV (Rolling Meadows Drive) intersection to just west of the County VV (North Pioneer Road) intersection.
Project purpose and need
Currently, the existing structure provides insufficient clearance over I-41 and lacks pedestrian accommodations. The existing County OOO structure provides 15-feet,10-inches of vertical clearance to I-41 at its lowest point. The standard clearance is 16-feet 9-inches.The primary purpose of the project is to redeck or reconstruct the existing bridge that carries County OOO (West Scott Street) over I-41 and upgrade other roadway deficiencies.
Anticipated benefits
The project will provide additional vertical clearance for I-41 motorists, decrease future maintenance costs, and improve operations and safety at the overpass. The project will also provide pedestrian and bicycle accommodations as well as improved curb ramps to meet ADA standards.
Proposed improvements
This is a preliminary design-level project. Two alternatives are being evaluated at this point: Alternative A and Alternative B. Please review the below information and provide comment.
Alternative A - Redecking This alternative would involve:
- Removing the old bridge deck
- Raising the existing bridge girders to increase I-41 vertical clearance
- Constructing a new, wider bridge deck to accommodate bike lanes and a pedestrian sidewalk
- Replacing approaches and guardrails
- New sidewalk connecting the commercial entrance to North Pioneer Road
Alternative A – Redecking Pros:
- Shorter duration road closure of County OOO
- Less impact to I-41
- Reuse of existing abutments and deck girders
- No impacts to right of way or drainage structures
- Lower construction cost – Approximately 50% less

Alternative B - Reconstructing - This alternative would involve:
- Removing the old bridge
- Constructing a new bridge with a higher and wider deck to accommodate a multi-use trail, bike lanes and a pedestrian sidewalk
- Replacing approaches and guardrails
- New multi-use trail and sidewalk connecting the commercial entrance to North Pioneer Road

Traffic impacts
I-41 will remain open at all times with possible lane closures. County OOO plans are still being developed. Possible traffic impacts on County OOO include lane closures, full closures, and detours.
Schedule
- Environmental Document: Fall/Winter 2024
- Project design: 2024-2028
- The selected alternative will be available on this project website. It is anticipated the preferred alternative will be chosen in 2025.
- Construction currently scheduled for 2029.
Real estate
Permanent right-of-way (FEE) and Temporary Limited Easements (TLE) are not anticipated to be required for improvements along the project corridor.
