Location
These bridges on US 12 (Clairemont Avenue) cross the Chippewa River in the city of Eau Claire.
Overview
Built in 1993 and 2005, the east- and westbound US 12 bridges over the Chippewa River need rehabilitation. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing the following on both:
- Replacing existing expansion joints
- Replacing bearings.
- Making concrete surface repairs
- Making abutment and wing repairs
- Replacing concrete pavement approach slabs
- Placing a polymer overlay on each bridge deck
- Replacing guardrail

Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2028.
Traffic Impacts
During construction. US 12 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures as traffic is shifted between the bridges via temporary median crossovers.
