US 12 (Princeton Drive to WIS 29) and WIS 40 (US 12 to County M), village of Elk Mound to village of Colfax - Dunn County

Location

This improvement project is on US 12 from Princeton Drive to WIS 29 and WIS 40 from US 12 to County M in Dunn County.

Overview

The existing pavement on these segments are showing signs of deterioration. To address this, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:

  • Milling 2.25 inches of existing asphalt and paving 3.25 inches of hot-mix asphalt in rural areas
  • Milling 3.25 inches of existing asphalt and paving 3.25 inches of hot-mix asphalt in urban areas
  • Replacing joints on the Eighteen Mile Creek Bridge in village of Colfax
  • Placing centerline rumble strips in rural areas
  • Replacing cross culverts, along with sidewalk curb ramps and the railroad crossing in the village of Colfax

Construction currently is scheduled for 2026.

Traffic Impacts

During construction:

  • WIS 40 is expected to be closed for a week for the railroad crossing replacement in the village.
    • Traffic will be detoured via 5th Avenue, Dunn Street and Railroad Avenue.
  • For remaining work, US 12 and WIS 40 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging.
    • During replacement of sidewalk curb ramps, pedestrian traffic will be detoured.
