Location

The US 2 project extends from the east side of 36th Avenue in the city of Ashland to 1,100 feet west of Government Road in the town of Sanborn, all in Ashland County.

Overview

The existing pavement is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation proposed project includes:

  • Replacing guardrail components at the following locations:
    • 1,200-feet west of Beartrap Road on the south side of roadway
    • Kakagon Slough Bridge
    • West side of the Bad River Bridge
  • Installing centerline and shoulder rumble strips
  • Placing new pavement markings
    • All work for this project will occur in the existing right of way.

Schedule

Construction currently is scheduled in 2027.

  • The project is anticipated to take three to four months to construct.

Traffic Impacts

During construction, US 2 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by flagging. In addition, local and emergency access will be maintained to adjacent properties.
