Location
The project limits on US 63 extend from the first bridge crossing of the Namekagon River east of Trego to 430 feet south of County M in the unincorporated community of Springbrook, all in Washburn County.
Overview
The pavement along this segment of US 63 is deteriorating. To address that, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:
- Milling off a portion of the existing asphalt pavement, crushing the milled materials, mixing them with a stabilizing agent, paving the recycled mixture back onto the roadway and compacting the new surface
- Overlaying the roadway with hot-mix asphalt
- Installing centerline rumble strips
- Cleaning culverts, ditches and storm sewers
- Clearing the roadside to ensure proper sight distances for motorists and clear vision triangles
- Completing culvert work, including lining culverts, repairing scour on select culverts and replacing broken end walls on certain structures
- Replacing or rehabilitating guardrail
- Replacing curb and gutter at spot locations
- Completing spot curb and gutter replacement in the unincorporated community of Earl
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2031, but work could be advanced to 2028 if funding becomes available.
Traffic Impacts
During construction, US 63 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging operations.
